This Privacy Notice applies to 60 Decibels Inc. (“60 Decibels”, “us”, “we”, “our”), the data controller responsible for the personal data collected and used within the scope of this Notice. We operate in various offices around the world.

What we do:

60 Decibels, headquartered in New York and offices in the UK, Kenya, and India, is a tech-powered impact measurement company that makes it easy to listen to the people who matter most. Using our Lean DataSM approach, we speak directly to customers, employees or beneficiaries, usually over mobile phones.

60 Decibels User Types

Much of this Privacy Notice is divided into sections based on the way you may interact with 60 Decibels. You are either a Site Visitor, a Participant, and/or a Business Partner (as defined below). Please determine what user type you are. For each user type we’ve explained what information we collect and why, what cookies and other technologies we use, how we share such information and your rights.

Site Visitors

You are a Site Visitor when you visit and interact with our web sites, web pages, interactive features, blogs and their respective contents at 60decibels.com and other related domains and subdomains (collectively the “Website”).

What information we collect and why

We want to understand what services on our Website interest you and we want to remind you about the services we offer when you are not on our Website. In order to do this, we collect the following information from your device: IP address; User Agent data: device type (e.g., iPhone), browser type (e.g., Chrome), operating system (e.g., iOS); the pages visited on our Website (e.g., the 60 Decibels “Contact” page); the time of the visit (and corresponding time zone); and referring URLs and other information normally transmitted in HTTP requests (e.g., information telling us how you arrived on our Website).

In addition, we may also collect your name and email address if you agree to send your details to us via our Websites (e.g., by signing up to receive our newsletter).

  • Sharing Information we learn about you on our Website

Our Website contains links to other websites that we do not own or operate. For example, on our Websites you will notice clickable icons which take you to the 60 Decibels Twitter page or the 60 Decibels LinkedIn page. If you choose to click on these links, you should know that these sites are not owned or operated by 60 Decibels and therefore these third-party websites may send their own cookies to your device and they may independently collect personal data. Sharing of your information

We do not sell, trade, share or transfer your personal information to third parties except in the following limited circumstances:

  • We may share your personal information with third-party service providers to permit such parties to provide services that help us with our business activities. This may include assisting us with marketing, advertising our offerings, or providing, maintaining and improving the features and functionality of the Website, among other things. For example, we may provide personal information to our service providers for direct emailing of our newsletters. All third parties are obliged to meet appropriate security requirements and comply with all applicable legislation;
  • We may share your personal information when we have a good faith belief that access, use, preservation or disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary to (a) satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request, (b) enforce a Customer Agreement, including investigation of potential violations thereof, or (c) protect against imminent harm to our rights, property or safety, or that of our users or the public as required or permitted by law.

Security of data

Storage and Processing: 60 Decibels is headquartered in the United States. The information collected through our website will be stored and processed in the United States or any other region in which 60 Decibels or its subsidiaries, affiliates or service providers maintain facilities.

Keeping your information safe: The security of your data is important to us. We maintain appropriate technical and organizational safeguards to protect your personal information. When you enter sensitive information, we encrypt that information in transit using industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption technology.

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal information from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered or disclosed. In addition, we limit access to your personal information to those employees, agents, contractors and other third parties who have a business need to know. They will only process your personal information on our instructions, and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal information breach and will notify you of a breach and will notify any applicable regulator where we are legally required to do so.

Data Retention: Except as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law or regulation, personal information will be retained for as long as is needed to fulfil the purposes for which the personal information is collected or as long as there is an overriding legal obligation to retain the information, whichever is later. Under some circumstances we may anonymize your Personal Information so that it can no longer be associated with you. We reserve the right to use such anonymous and de-identified data for any legitimate business purpose without further notice to you or your consent.

Data Transfer: We maintain servers around the world and your information may be processed on servers located outside of the country where you live. Data protection laws vary among countries, with some providing more protection than others. Regardless of where your information is processed, we apply the same protections described in this Notice.

Our Website may contain links to other sites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by us. Therefore, we strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of these websites. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Your rights and choices

Communication Preferences: If you no longer wish to receive our newsletter or promotional communications, you may opt-out of receiving them by following the instructions included on such communications.

Blocking Cookies: Our Website uses cookies to ensure that you get the best experience. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. European Territory and UK Data Subject Rights

In compliance with certain privacy laws, in particular the European General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the UK-GDPR, 60 Decibels provides specific additional rights for individuals who interact with 60 Decibels such as the right to access, rectification, right to object, to complaint, erasure and blockage. More specifically and under certain circumstances:

  • the right to request information about whether and which personal data is processed by us, and the right to demand that personal data is rectified or amended.
  • the right to request that personal data should be deleted.
  • the right to demand that the processing of personal data should be restricted.
  • withdraw your consent to the processing and use of your data completely or partially at any time with future application.
  • have the right to obtain your personal data in a common, structured and mechanically readable format.
  • contact our data protection officer if there are any questions, comments, complaints or requests in connection with our statement on data protection and the processing of your personal data.
  • the right to complain to the responsible supervisory authority if believed that the processing of your personal data is in violation of the legislation.

If 60 Decibels does not satisfactorily answer your questions or concerns, you may also contact the Information Commissioner’s Office, which is 60 Decibels’ lead supervisory authority within the European Territories.

This section applies to citizens from European Territories (e.g., European Economic Area (EEA), the European Free Trade Area (EFTA) and Switzerland) and the United Kingdom (UK).

This section applies only to California residents.

As a California resident, you have the rights listed below. However, these rights are not absolute, and in certain cases we may decline your request as permitted by law.

In addition, if you direct us not to sell your Personal Information, we will consider it a request pursuant to California’s “Shine the Light” law to stop sharing your personal information covered by that law with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
  • Opt-in. We contractually prohibit our publishing and advertising clients from placing our technology on pages that target individuals younger than 16 years old. If we learn that you are younger than 16 years old, we will be asking for your permission (or if you are younger than 13 years old, your parent or guardian’s permission) to sell your Personal Information before we do so.
  • Non-discrimination. You are entitled to exercise the rights described above free from discrimination. This means that we will not penalize you for exercising your rights by taking actions such as denying you services; increasing the price/rate of services; decreasing service quality; or suggesting that we may penalize you as described above for exercising your rights.

We reserve the right to change our Privacy Policy at any time and we advise you to check this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the Website after we post any modifications to the Privacy Policy on this page will constitute your acknowledgment of the modifications and your consent to abide and be bound by the modified Privacy Policy. If we make any material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you either by email or through a notice on our Website.
